Holter Monitor

This test is a continuous monitoring of your heart beat during which you go about your daily activities. It can be ordered for 24 or 48 hours and is normally ordered if you have had a fainting spell, dizziness, palpitations or are known to have an irregular rhythm.

It is a small monitor which can be worn at the waist. A few sticky patches called electrodes are placed on your chest and connected to the monitor. The electrical activity of the heart will be digitally recorded. During the monitoring period, you will be given a paper sheet. You will need to write down your symptoms and activities as well as the time of their occurence so that your heart rhythm can be accordingly correlated.

Once the monitor is returned, our staff will assess the computerized electrical activity of your heart and the final results will be efficiently sent to your physician.

During the monitoring, please remember that wires, electrodes and the recorder should NOT get wet. If they become loose, please press on the pads to resecure them. You will also need to avoid electric blankets, metal detectors, magnets or power lines since they may interfere with your heartbeat recordings.

The holter monitor is very small.
It is easily attached with a clip.
